Congressional Reform Act of 2011

I don’t know who originated this, but it sounds really really good to me. – dhw

Congressional Reform Act of 2011

1. Term Limits – 12 years only, one of the possible options below..
    A. Two Six-year Senate terms
    B. Six Two-year House terms
    C. One Six-year Senate term and three Two-Year House terms

2. No Tenure / No Pension.

A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.

3. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security. All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people.

4. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

5. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Their pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

6. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

7. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

8. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective immediately after passage of the bill.

The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen. They made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an privilege, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.

If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people then it will only take three days for most people (in the U.S.) to receive the message. Maybe it is time.

THIS IS HOW YOU FIX CONGRESS!

If you agree with the above, pass it on. If not, just delete.

“What the Right-wing Assault on Women, Unions, the Environment, Health Care and PBS Is All About”–A review by a conservative

Quotes from an article by George Lakoff: http://tinyurl.com/63xoyou

False assumptions on the part of liberals:

“Conservatives believe in individual responsibility alone, not social responsibility. They don’t think government should help its citizens. That is, they don’t think citizens should help each other.”

This is not true. The fact is we do believe citizens should help one another, but not forced. We do not believe the government, i.e. elected bilkers, should tell us who is deserving and who is not. We should have the right to determine who we believe deserves help and who doesn’t. I do not want to support those who choose to spend their time and money on activities that prevent them from taking care of themselves and their families.

“But where does that view of individual responsibility alone come from?

The way to understand the conservative moral system is to consider a strict father family. The father is The Decider, the ultimate moral authority in the family. His authority must not be challenged. His job is to protect the family, to support the family (by winning competitions in the marketplace), and to teach his kids right from wrong by disciplining them physically when they do wrong. The use of force is necessary and required. Only then will children develop the internal discipline to become moral beings. And only with such discipline will they be able to prosper. And what of people who are not prosperous? They don’t have discipline, and without discipline they cannot be moral, so they deserve their poverty. The good people are hence the prosperous people. Helping others takes away their discipline, and hence makes them both unable to prosper on their own and function morally.”

This is a bunch of malarkey. As a general rule we, conservatives, do believe in discipline. Many of us have used “corporal punishment” in the disciplining of our children. It has worked for thousands of years and continues to work. If someone does not have the discipline to work and earn their keep, then yes, they do deserve what that brings….poverty.

Consider this….If we had no currency whatsoever and each family had to grow their own produce and raise their own livestock, then those who were not willing to work, would starve…except that some of their neighbors would likely come to their aid before letting them starve to death.  But you had better not come to me and force me to give up some of my vegetables and livestock for someone who just plain would rather sit around and drink moonshine or other non-productive behavior, than to get off their seats and provide for their own family.

“The market itself is seen in this way. The slogan, "Let the market decide" assumes the market itself is The Decider. The market is seen as both natural (since it is assumed that people naturally seek their self-interest) and moral (if everyone seeks their own profit, the profit of all will be maximized by the invisible hand). As the ultimate moral authority, there should be no power higher than the market that might go against market values. Thus the government can spend money to protect the market and promote market values, but should not rule over it either through (1) regulation, (2) taxation, (3) unions and worker rights, (4) environmental protection or food safety laws, and (5) tort cases. Moreover, government should not do public service. The market has service industries for that. Thus, it would be wrong for the government to provide health care, education, public broadcasting, public parks, and so on. The very idea of these things is at odds with the conservative moral system. No one should be paying for anyone else. It is individual responsibility in all arenas. Taxation is thus seen as taking money away from those who have earned it and giving it to people who don’t deserve it. Taxation cannot be seen as providing the necessities of life, a civilized society, and as necessary for business to prosper.”

Not all conservatives believe this way. I enjoy fire protection and police protection. I enjoy good streets. But not all “services” provided by the “government” are good! Many of the “entitlements” promote or foster delinquent behavior, in fact reward delinquent behavior. If you could get social workers to really speak their mind openly without fear of repercussions you would find many of them observe adult delinquent behavior all the time and get sick of it. Some even believe in “forced sterilization.”

Additionally, greed does come into play…Enron, Bernie Madoff, etc.  So, there does need to be some kind of regulatory body and one that enforces said regulations.

“the democracy of caring, of social responsibility, and of excellence, where prosperity is to be shared by those who work and those who serve.”

This is one of the few statements in this article that I can agree with! (Underline and bold by dhw)

The article I have quoted from is shameful in its deception. The statements are way too general and the author does not provide any citations to backup some of his assertions.

It seems to me that hard-core liberals base all their views from an emotional point of view. And many conservatives appear to have no feeling of good will toward their fellow man. As in all areas of life we need balance. We need to follow the teachings of Jesus in all areas of our lives. (Even if you do not believe He is the Messiah…just a good philosopher, I believe you would agree that if we all followed His teachings, we would find the balance we need.)

I implore all my friends, conservatives and liberals, seek Truth.  Don’t listen to just one side.  Examine all sides.

Dennis Wilson…trying to find balance in all areas of my life.

The Department of State has issued this Worldwide Caution to update information on the continuing threat of terrorist actions and violence against U.S. citizens and interests throughout the world.
U.S. citizens are reminded to maintain a high level of vigilance and to take appropriate steps to increase their security awareness. This replaces the Worldwide Caution dated August 12, 2010, to provide updated information on security threats and terrorist activities worldwide.

The Department of State remains concerned about the continued threat of terrorist attacks, demonstrations, and other violent actions against U.S. citizens and interests overseas.  U.S. citizens are reminded that demonstrations and rioting can occur with little or no warning.  Current information suggests that Al-Qaida and affiliated organizations continue to plan terrorist attacks against U.S. interests in multiple regions, including Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.  These attacks may employ a wide variety of tactics including suicide operations, assassinations, kidnappings, hijackings, and bombings.
